Meet Prince Israel Orekha

Prince Israel Orekha is the Founder and Executive Director of Connected Advocacy for Empowerment and Youth Development Initiative, a Nigerian youth-led nonprofit based in the Niger Delta. He is a climate justice and environmental governance advocate focused on community participation, youth inclusion, energy access, and locally led just energy transition solutions. He has represented frontline communities at international climate forums, including UN climate negotiations, and has authored research on decarbonization and community participation in environmental governance.

Who is Prince Israel?
Prince Israel is a Nigerian environmental justice advocate and youth organizer from the Niger Delta. He works with Connected Advocacy for Empowerment and Youth Development Initiative, focusing on oil pollution, climate action, democratic participation, energy access, and the inclusion of local communities in Nigeria’s just energy transition.
Connected Advocacy is a youth-led organization working at the intersection of environmental justice, climate action, democratic governance, and youth inclusion. Its work connects frontline communities with policymakers and international platforms while building local capacity to advocate for environmental restoration, clean energy, and economic opportunities.
“Let Africa Breathe” is a local-to-global campaign highlighting the effects of oil and gas production on communities in the Niger Delta and across Africa. Through community storytelling, public actions, and advocacy, the campaign calls for pollution reduction, genuine environmental restoration, energy access, and a stronger role for affected communities in climate decisions.
According to Prince Israel, decades of oil extraction have polluted rivers, killed fish, degraded farmland, damaged health, and destroyed traditional livelihoods based on fishing and agriculture. Communities also face gas flaring, unsafe water, poverty, limited electricity, abandoned infrastructure, and the loss of young people seeking work elsewhere.
Prince argues that Nigeria’s transition must be locally driven and create real benefits for affected communities. His priorities include affordable renewable energy, solar infrastructure, battery storage, local manufacturing, agroecology, youth employment, technology transfer, environmental restoration, and meaningful participation in political and economic decision-making.
